No poker face

October 3, 2009 joieiL Leave a comment

Kenneth invited us to a ‘last’ dinner in his house as he’s moving out soon and we bought long john silver fries as appetizers. We played poker which overall I was the biggest loser of the night, luckily zixuan won enough to cover my losses and overall lost turn out to be $1. I have no poker face at all. It’s time to start listening to Poker face I think.

Food Haunts

The Cheesecake Café- Passed by this place many times and finally pop into try. However I guess as it was a Saturday night, the place was packed with people. Interior of the café looks interesting however it was full, therefore we sat outside.  Being me as usual, I ordered Peach Jelly Cheesecake, which was interesting I would say. But it didn’t taste like cheesecake. The boyfriend ordered vanilla chocolate chip cake which was much nicer.  Didn’t like the fact that everyone has to order at least an item and the seats were all place very close to each other. We can listen to stranger’s conversation so clearly and it’s hard to not hear when we are all so close to each other. Left straight after eating as the boyfriend was quite pissed off.

Old Hong Kong Tea House- We dropped in this Hong Kong Café for supper which is nestled in Katong Village.  We had the yuan yang, a mango ice cream dessert, egg tart, and la mian.  The yuan yang was diluted; the mango glutinous ice cream dessert was quite bad as the glutinous rice was hard. The egg tart was normal, but it looks way better in the picture which was the reason why I ordered it. The only saving grace was the la mien with curry sauce, crispy pig intestines, crispy, like roast pig skin with a slight intestines taste. It was a slow night and service was just as slow.

I seldom find a reason to order prata, however I found a new prata which is not bad! It’s better than egg prata as you can taste more of the egg taste. It’s the plaster prata, with the egg on top of it. I’ve never seen it on the menu of Al-Ameen Eating House, wondering can I request prata to be cooked in that way just like the Roti Prata House in Thomson.  Frankly, the prata at Al Ameen is quite sucky. The Roti Prata house service was really bad though, wave to the waiters to place orders yet we get ignored and they keep showing the hold on sign while getting other people who came after us orders.

Date

It’s been a while since I’ve been on a date with the boyfriend. Recently been hanging out with his friends and not that I don’t enjoy it. I enjoyed their company too, funny and nice people, but it’s also nice to spend some 2 people time together.

Zixuan picked me from Vivo where we then head to Robertson Quay for dessert. I finally tasted soufflé. It always looks so delicious in TV but in reality, it’s just taste eggy. After dessert, we went to Liang Court, Tampopo Restaurant for dinner.  He had the shabu shabu black pig ramen while I had the beef curry rice. The food tasted quite unhealthy, but nice.  The ramen soup based tasted quite MSG infused, just like maggi mee. But according to the zixuan, most probably there’s no MSG. Food there are not bad, prefer it over Murutama.

It was then to the Pump room for some live music. However as it was a Saturday, it was packed. There were lots of eye candy in clarke quay and the boyfriend head was spinning like 360̊̊ the whole night. The live band was not bad, almost everyone in the group sings. I love soft rock.

“Isn’t it strange that the first thing you noticed was something that was absent?… If you were in love, and were waiting for your loved one to call you, you might ‘hear’ him not calling you all evening. You arrange to meet him at the train; crowds of people are milling around about on the platform and you can’t see him anywhere. They are all in the way, they are unimportant to you.” –Sophia’s world-

Exhibitions weekend

Cars and woman are one of Zixuan’s passions in life, therefore on Saturday we went to expo for the Super Import Nights. There were many nice looking cars which were zhng and import models posing around. There were as many cameras as there are people. However I think they are more interested in the models than cars though.

John Little expo sales were just beside and after the car show we pop in to buy some snacks before heading out to Bedok for dinner.

On Sunday we went to the Games Convention at Suntec. Actually it was quite a small event, nothing much beside free coke zero and some cosplay characters. We then rushed over to House of Seafood at Yio Chu Kang for dinner with Zixuan’s father and family. . Champagne pork ribs, mantou, mee goring, signature bean curd, chili crab, black pepper crab, steamed fish were ordered. The pork ribs were all right as it does not have the porky taste. I hate pork with the porky taste. Chili crabs sauce was too sweet and not to my liking, however black pepper crabs were quite nice. Too bad I was still having sore throat if not I would have eaten more of the black pepper crabs.

Gatherings

It’s been awhile since I drove and when Zixuan let me drove home one night, I was feeling darn happy. Seating behind the wheel had me grinning like a fool the whole drive home. It is kind of a torture when you can drive and yet not able to drive.

Got myself a free buffet dinner when the guys gave Jihao a birthday treat at Sakura Tampines. Hanging out with them is going to make me fatter. -_-“

Attended Junda’s BBQ weeks ago and some of the games we play was quite fun. I enjoyed the games even though the forfeits were kind of boring. Food wise, there was not enough food, and there were even lobsters available but due to the lousy fire, the lobsters that were the last one to be cooked turned bad and gave the boyfriend a bad tummy ache.

One year has passed, and once again, it was Boon Theng’s birthday celebration at Pasir Ris. The usual suspects turned up and guess everybody is now going their own separate ways.  Awkward pauses were frequent and even Junming’s jokes were getting old.

Chili Crab Record

We were part of the Singapore book of records for “ Most number of people eating Chili Crab” last Saturday at Smith Street, Chinatown. Tickets were $15bucks pax but as a reader of ieat blog, we only paid $12.50 which was quite good value for money. Each person received $25 worth of food tokens and we got to try many different sorts of food. Even with 3 guys(kenneth, Jihao and Zixuan), there was still many tokens left which we exchanged for about1 and a half box of can drinks.

The record stands at 431 number of people currently. It was quite fun, though the boyfriend mentioned that he don’t think he should eat buffet anymore.  Tried lots of dishes and we were only done eating close to 12am. The carrot cake disappointed as they precooked it and only reheat it when people order.

Some of the Stalls are:

  1. Da Dong Dim Sum
  2. New Generation Desserts
  3. City Satay
  4. Ah Balling Peanut Soup

Surprise Breakfast

July 15, 2009 joieiL Leave a comment

Pop over to surprise the boyfriend with KFC breakfast, but too bad, he said my questions to test whether he’s home gave the trick away.

Head out to lunch with Jihao and Kenneth at Tiong Bahru market for the famous shark meat lor mee but too bad it’s closed. Tried chocolate and dinosaur ice kachang, but still think original ice kachang is the best. We had chwee kueh too, it was not bad but it’s not really the type that i like.

After lunch we head over to Alexander for some car seeing before heading to Sunset Way for ice cream at The Daily Scoop. We tried, Sunny Strawberry, Lychee Martini, Peach Bum and Durian-Durian. Found out my tolerance level for durian ice cream is way better than the past. I used to hate the stench of it not less vomiting after a taste of it, but after trying a bite, it seems like now I only can’t stand the stench left in the mouth after eating it.

Legal on the road

I took my driving test today and passed. My tester was one fierce guy, and he was silent througout the whole test except the end when he asked me quite fiercely why did I not cross the pedestrian crossing. There was a pedestrian there that’s why! -__-“

Overslept today and when I woke up it was like 1.30pm. Warm up was at 2.15pm and the test started at 3.45. I was actually not nervous during the waiting time and test, but only after the whole test was when I become nervous waiting for the results. Even the lady waiting for the results commented that my tester is very fierce. The duration of my test was only like less than 30minutes which kind of worried me as I’ve heard from friends that if your test duration is short, most likely you will not make it.

I think I was quite lucky, as I remember my instructor telling me before that route 5 is one of the easiest route around.

Called up my Dad and mother once I passed and my Dad was pretty pleased with me. Dad bought us to The Little Grill at Jurong as today was also my brother first day of school in NYP. Western food is not that bad there, and I’ve got to say, my mother black pepper chicken chop was nice. The fries were quite dry, but the food was quite good. Better than char grill.

Euphoria filled me when I got my result and after telling my parents I wanted to share my happy news with mr ng. But then again, he doesn’t even remember I have test today, even my friends message me well wishes in the morning.  Actually am not angry at him, just that my sister went Malaysia for 4days and once she’s back, her boyfriend immediately bought whatever she was craving for and have been seeing her for almost daily. Well my boyfriend can go without seeing me for days and weeks and it’s just like that. When it’s like that, I just feel like, nah, don’t need tell him. But end up, I told him.  I feel like the girl that people only love because i am available at the moment. Why do i sound bored when he call? Cause he only call when i’m feeling pissed cause he forget me again. When he call me just randomly, i don’t sound that way. Is it just me or what? Why does other girls, my sister gets guys that likes/love them and treat them so well, and my bfs are people whom i love more than they do?

Saw this quote on facebook just now and it feels quite apt at the moment”there once was a little girl who never knew love until a boy broke her HEART”.

Mummy and aunt was like drive slowly is the best and I was like please, I got deducted points for driving slowly and they went LOL. Hahaha

When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless your heart

Food Exploring

April 4, 2009 joieiL Leave a comment

For the first time ever since we started dating, I’ve never seen Mr. Ng like more than twice a week. It’s usually once or sometimes twice a week, but for the very first time, I met him like 4times this week. Mr. Ng is really surprising me this week. Met him first on Tuesday as I took half day off work for driving lessons and met him for dinner and on Friday he came over for dinner and helped fixed my internet connection as well as printer problem. Then I met him again like on weekends. What’s the point of writing it down seems quite lame but I wrote it down so the next time I’m complaining about him never making any effort, I can look back and remember this.

We went to try fermented beancurd for the first time at geylang. I can say it is one dish that I will never order again. It smells like shit and the taste is the same. The inside of the bean curd is soft, just like normal bean curd and it’s the crispy skin of the bean curd that has the bas smell. If you wish to know how shit taste like, then that is a must try.

We then hopped over to Yong He Eating house for soy drink as well as fried fritters. I spotted salty soy drink and ordered that to try. Damn, it was quite disgusting to be honest. If there is a plate of fermented bean curd and salty soy drink, it will be hard to decide which to choose, and I think I would rather take the bean curd over it anytime. The salty soy drink is actually soft bean curd mixed with vinegar, spring onion and small shrimps.

Food exploring is fun.
