Fried Sotong

June 9, 2009 joieiL Leave a comment

Did I mention I was going to resign? I did and it’s kind of irritating to go lunch with my colleagues the moment the letter was submitted. They keep trying to dig out the “TRUE” reason why I left. Actually it’s just the normal reasons why people quit their job, to find a better job, higher pay somewhere else. The working environment there kind of sucks big time even though I have flexibility in work, the bosses there I think kind of have no respect for their workers.

Well, do you guys know of anyone hiring? Remember me! :D

Lucky girl

April 7, 2009 joieiL Leave a comment

Today was really quite an eventful day for me. First in the morning, the bus driver forgets to stop at the bus stop and have to let the passengers off at the split junction of the expressway. But when I alight from the bus, I fell straight down and the damaged my pride. I considered myself lucky as I was planning on wearing a skirt but something just stopped me and my hand grabbed the pants instead. If not, my leg will be bleeding.

It was pouring when I left for work inspection and the first cab I got into, the uncle said he will not have the time to drive me to 2 places therefore I got off and hired another cab. While onboard the other cab I was finding my handphone and I thought I left it in office, so I asked the driver to turn back. When I can’t find it, then I know that the careless me have left it in the first cab. The first few call I made, it sound like someone have found it and shut it off. I thought, there is no way I will get my handphone back in this situation. Luckily thanks to my sister, mother, aunt and colleague help, who bombarded my phone with calls, the cab driver returned the phone back with a $6 taxi fare charge.

Headed back to office after my inspection to get my handphone from my sister and rushed over to Plaza Singapore to meet Gab.  We went to Sinema Old School which is located at Mt Sophia. That place oozes old school charm with a few low rise building and a museum. According to Gab, a few renowned photographers, graphic designers, etc office is located there. Sinema showcase local /Asian/international art shows and on Tuesday there is free screening of short films by students.

The cinema has great red sofa seats but after awhile its get uncomfortable as the sofa was too slouchy.

I am however quite impressed by the standard of ITE students. Their short films are actually quite good, and were executed quite nicely.

There is also a café outside called Recess with a live band. This place if properly marketed can be like the next Dempsey. It is really a nice chill out place. However I like the way it is right now, without so many people where people can relax and have conversations.

Gab allowed me to drive his car and pass it to me like here, take it. I was like woohoo! I grabbed the key and hopped into the car, preparing to move off when the fuel gauge indicator starts beeping. I just shut off without putting the gear back to neutral. After the show, when he starts the car, the car reverse back, and luckily his reaction were quick. It was a close call as there was a pillar behind.

He went to pump petrol and drove me home. The best thing was even after that incident, he let me drive his car around my estate.  I’m so used to my training car that when I’m driving his car, it was real jerky.

Damn am I lucky or what today?

New Year Eve-Celebrations of a brand New Year and New Beginnings.

January 1, 2009 joieiL Leave a comment

I spent my New Year Eve countdown with prawns, friends and my love at Bishan Park.  Prawning, a boring activity, but I caught one prawn just for the sake of just catching one prawn. All of us were bad at catching prawns and luckily Jeremy, Priscilla’s boyfriend was there to save the day. He was catching prawn like almost every minute.  There were some hiccups at the start due to miscommunication of timing and location and the boy was frustrated with me when he can’t find the location.

The boy was not into fishing so we went to Bishan Park for walk and rejoin the group 30minutes before the clock strikes 12. It was then off to Derek’s friend bak kut the store at Joo Chiat. Kenneth joined us for supper as he was bored playing games. The guys head off to Boat Quay after supper and the rest went back home. Kenneth then asked us to go to a new pub near his house but it was closed so we went to his house to drink, eat chocolate and talk crap. It was almost morning when we went back. The boy said it was kind of weird, and my colleagues all were surprised when I said I spent my countdown with prawns. I feel that the boy don’t really like hanging out with my group of friends but they are my only group of friends.

Gathering with friends is all right but I doubt I will be going prawning again. It’s just not my type of activity.

Virgin Brazilian Wax

October 1, 2008 joieiL Leave a comment

The Brazilian wax voucher that I received with compliments from wen and teo was expiring this month therefore I have to make an appointment at Strip @ Wheelock or their gift will wasted. They share the same unit with Browhaus. First I have to sign an indemnity form saying I’m not allergy to anything and stuff. Then I was bought to a room where the therapists (what they called themselves) gave me a blanket and wet wipe to clean myself and cover myself. While lying there, I thought, if it was 2years ago I will be mortified at the thought of doing Brazilian wax and will never do it, and now here I am. I thought I will be embarrassed but to my surprise I was not. The girl helping me was quite professional so it was like seeing a doctor. It was not as painful as I imagine it to be, it’s just like removing scotschtape from your skin. I even chatted with the girl over it, asking her whether it’s embarrassing when she first started and etc. She told me that she could not eat for one week when she first started because she never even view her own before and now she has to face this as part of her job. It was only till her 4th strip job before she gets used to it and over time, she immune to it. It was over in 15minutes and less and I don’t even walk funny after it.

I was given an aftercare wax instruction card (general for all types of waxing) and some instructions are quite funny if you applied it for Brazilian wax. Apparently you should have no extensive sun exposure for at least 4weeks after treatment, sun block is strongly recommended, no intensive exercise. The others were quite logical so its fine, but this 2points were quite funny. Who will expose their privates for tanning, and apply sun block there. No intensive exercise? Is it hard vigorous sex? Sister and I were laughing over it.

Oh, the pain was akin to threading, so it’s not that bad, but the therapist says I have very sensitive skin as there were some red bumps on it. Sister was supposed to do the Brazilian wax with me but due to the time of the month, she can’t.  We hopped over to Browhaus to fix our thick ugly eyebrows. Browhaus provide excellent service and I am always satisfied with the results. I’ve been to some places that gave do not do a good job at all.

For the first time in history, sister treated me to something nice instead of fast food. We had our lunch at Canelè Pâtisserie Chocolaterie @ Shaw Center. We shared 3cakes, Caraibe, Café Caramel, Mont Blanc and one bolognaise and poached egg baked rice. I wanted to try the macarons but it was $2.30 for one small piece, it’s too expensive therefore we gave it a miss. Café Caramel is the nicest of the 3cakes as it has the right amount of sweetness while Mont Blanc which is 66% dark chocolate is overly sweet for our liking. One or two bites is fine, anything more is too much and Caraibe balances out the sweetness of the other cakes. I believe there is ginger in Caraibe.

I bought some of the books I wanted at Borders which makes me happy, though it was heavy lugging it around while shopping. We burn our salary on shoes, clothes and accessories. I went off to meet the boy after shopping spree, while sister head home. We were hungry and went to find food around 1am. Maybe it was because of public holiday, many kopitiams was closed. He drove to ang mo kio, Thomson and Serangoon gardens but every place was dark.  We end up eating ba chor mee at upper Thomson road, there’s even a piece of succulent prawn in my bowl!

My 23th years on earth

July 3, 2008 joieiL Leave a comment

At the stroke of midnight, my body turned 23years old. However internally, there was no major change. It was like every normal night. I recalled the joke, how many birthdays does a person have? Answer: 1. Birthdays are the date that we are born, the rest are just celebration of our birth.

Anderson and Teo arranged to treat me dinner on Tuesday, however due to work commitments Anderson could not make it, and it was postpone to a later date. Zx called me around night so he will be the first person to wish me happy birthday. ^^ *makes me warm on the inside*

Many people message me to wish me happy birthday to my surprise some people whom I totally didn’t expect them to remember, remembered. That was so sweet of them.

Applied half day as I find it too wasteful to take one full day as I’ve to save leave for my exams yet I do not wish to work on the day of my birth. I had a pleasant surprise from my department though, told there was a meeting and I gave a silent groan, yet when I walked inside, there was a birthday cake. Then they start singing, which makes me feel embarrassed as I’ve never celebrated my birthday with other people beside my family members. Appreciate it though.

Sister supposedly was supposed to go home together with me, however she changed her mind and I headed to bras baseh complex to get something before heading home. My sister is so sweet, she got me a pair of earrings which I was eyeing yet the pricing turns me off as it was not real stones yet pricy. Kind of expected that, but she got me a card which makes me more touched. I never expected a card from her. My sister is so adorable, it’s really so easy to love her which, no doubt is the reason why so many guys are interested in her. J

Kisses and stinky breath from them

Dinner was at Imperial Herbal Restaurant which was one of the places I was craving to go back again, and since parents are paying, it was back to there. I like the food there, especially the egg white on fried potato basket, stir fried venison (deer’s meat), prawn with egg yolk and the fried taro and yam coated with sugar liquid. The dessert was only mediocre, but it was fun, having to pick up the fried taro and yam and dunking it into the ice water so as to freeze the sugar then take out and eat. You have to do it fast so that they won’t be stuck together in one lump.  It’s fun dessert.

The fun dessert!

What are birthday without cake? It is the first time in my 23 years on earth that I’ve 2 birthday cakes. Sweet!  Aunt bought me a cake from Bakerzin but when the restaurant people serve it, they played the English, Chinese and Canto version of birthday songs. I was happily embarrassed. I received a red packet from parents too! Weee!

The day ended with deer presenting me photos of us as well as a photo frame. Every time when I see it, my heart radiate happiness.

A simple dinner with loved ones, a small cake is enough to make me happy.

Step into legal adulthood

May 29, 2008 joieiL Leave a comment

May 29th 2008 was Sister’s first step to legal adulthood. She’s no longer a child but can be tried for an adult if she commits a crime. :D She took half day leave on that day and requested me to take leave which I did. We went down first to Browhaus to make appointment, and were actually planning to do a Brazilian wax with her, but too bad it was forbidden zone that day.  Spent the afternoon in Orchard since it was the great Singapore sales, might as well do some shopping there. I have to lug sister’s heavy flowers as guys who are wooing her deliver flowers to her office. Spent quite a bit there and even though there is supposedly a GSS going on, items that we bought was not on sales at all. What the heck, they should just simply called it the Great Clearance Sales.

I bought a pink Guess heels. Yea, it’s hard to match pink shoes, but it looks so pretty that I can’t resist it. Made a mad dash from Paragon down to Wheelock since we will late for our appointment and after that we have to rush down to Changi Airport for sister birthday dinner. Mama arranges to eat there so as to kill 2birds with one stone. It was to celebrate Enard’s birthday as well as to fetch ah chun auntie’s and family. They went to Aussie for holiday. It was really quite easy to travel down to Changi Airport but again, it’s public transport which is slow. The directional sign are clear and it’s near the sky train station which allows people to make their way to terminal 1,2 or 3 easy as ABC.

There was not really much restaurants at terminal 3 and crystal jade was ruled out as we ate dim sum @ crystal jade just last week which only leave us with fast food(which is of course not a choice at all unless you are 3years old), sake sushi(daddy likes Chinese food), and Dian Xiao Er. Therefore Dian Xiao Er it was. The food was not bad; I especially like the dish, vegetables in some kind of sauce with salted egg.

Gong Xi Fa Cai

This is the weirdest Chinese New Year ever for my family. Due to both my grandmother passing away, we can’t go visiting as most people are superstitious and think it’s bad luck.  However this year Chinese New Year Eve was special as this was the first time I had reunion diner with aunts from maternal side of the family. Even my aunt and my uber姨丈 turned up. I would want my husband to look like him! He’s silent yet witty, great sense of taste, fashion, generous, charismatic, tall and cool looking!

Steamboat was warm heartening. I love Chinese New Year reunion dinner.

Zixuan bought me out for a spin after the dinner and we went to Jurong Hill to enjoy the breeze. :D

I guess I should never play blackjack. I’ve never win money playing that and this year was no exception. Bleh. Luckily I recoup some losses back in big2. Besides gambling, this was one boring New Year. I was almost home almost daily and there was nowhere you can go as most shops are closed. I almost can’t wait to go back to work. However I’m looking forward to the next public holiday now though.

Cousins stay overnight and we went for late midnight supper. My favorite carrot cake stall has closed and I asked the vendor next to it where has it moved too. To my despair, she said that the auntie no longer wants to work. ARgh!! Best carrot cake I’ve tasted gone! Where can I find the next best!
